Quality is top priority here at WW, and we will do what needs to be done to ensure that it stays that way. Stay ready!
I hope you enjoy!
McLean in New York
Jim McLean is one of the most legendary golf instructors of all time, and has schools all over the world. Just last month marked the grand opening of his golf school in Armonk, New York, and it’s a beauty. Not only does it have top of the line golf simulators, teachers, and equipment, but it resides in the same building as a physical therapist (Cor) and an athlete performance center (D1). If your swing needs a fix, or if you need that golf fix on a winter NY day, make sure to swing by, and read our article on them here!
E11EVEN Invitational
E11EVEN, arguably Miami’s most famous nightclub, is putting on their own golf tournament for Art Basel week that is sure to stand out amongst the rest. Infusing the vibes of their never ending party into golf course fun under the Florida sun, this tournament is sure to be not just eye catching, but a hell of a party. It is being held at Normandy Shores, the other public course on Miami Beach and the fastest greens I have played down in Miami, so get ready for that with a few transfusions in your system. With giveaways, sponsor activations, and celebrities galore, this golf classic takes the spirit of Miami nightlife and runs with it in a way very few can. Taking place December 5, you can reserve your foursome here!
Malbon F1
Malbon has again released a collection in collaboration with the Las Vegas Formula 1, combining golf, gambling, and racing into a 19 piece street(race)-ready collection. Infusing a lot of reds, blacks, and felt greens into the clothing, they also give us some beautiful ball markers in the form of poker chip designed metal, as well as F1 Driver Buckets. The golf bag is beautiful, sleeker than the Ghostface Killah bag with its muted colors and diamond motifs, yet made of the same high quality materials. The Malbon Motors t-shirt is an awesome piece of memorabilia, as it has race details, while others like the spokes crewneck use beautiful logos to represent their racing passion. All in all, it is another success for the Malbon team, and another example of how golf can be a tool used to fuse cultures together and bring different mediums under one umbrella. Shop collection here.
Weekly Advisors
This tip completely saved my round the other day, as I was really struggling with a slice with most of my clubs. I could tell it was a club face problem, I was unable to close my hands in time to square the club face on the ball. But, near the end of the round unfortunately, I remembered a video I had watched recently that used a tennis racket to represent the club face. In it, the guy was hitting the racket onto an impact bag, a training tool for the golf swing. He showed how important it was to really imagine the center of the racket slamming into the bag, essentially feeling in the top of your hand the impact position. Well, all day, I had been feeling impact in the side of my hand, and when I imagined myself moving my hand like the guy in the video, I immediately started hitting crispy irons and straight drives. It was genuinely a black and white difference. It really is sometimes as simple as letting your wrist twist a few inches, a natural motion that your mind sometimes can stop your body from executing.
Course of the Week
For this week, we’re going back to the Sunshine State to talk about Miami Beach Golf Club, the only public course on South Beach, and host course to the We The Best Golf Classic. I have had the pleasure of playing here a few times, and each time I am reminded of how beautiful this course is. Splayed out amongst the canals, palm trees, and high rises of Alton Road, this course is as challenging as it as fun. While not the longest course, it is definitely one of the thinner courses we have in Miami, with lots of obstacles lining the holes that make tee shots very difficult. The greens run fast, and are usually guarded by water or sand, going long of the flag is usually the play here. With the large clubhouse and grill, and beautiful range, it is definitely one of the top public courses to play in South Florida.
Stupid Golf Story
This I am writing about to serve as a lesson to all golfers, new and old. I was about to tee off for an extra 9 holes at Van Cortlandt yesterday, and while talking to my friend Sean, I let another single go in front of me. He was no older than I was, and seemed to be good, as he teed off from the back tees. I let him finish the hole before teeing off, but quickly caught up to him on the fourth tee box. I asked him to pair up, and he just looked at me funny and drove off… Ok, a bit odd, but flash forward 2 holes later to a par three where I saw this man drive his golf cart onto the fringe next to the green. Look, I’m no hero, and I’m definitely not a snitch, but as someone who plays this course a lot, has a relationship with the employees, and wants to see it in top condition, I was incensed. I gave the guy a good ribbing from 200 yards away and he drove off, only for me to see him drive onto the fairway on the only cart path only hole on the whole course. What an absolute idiot. Do not be like this guy. And for the record, he sucked.
I hope you enjoyed this casual edition Weekenders Weekly, the “Oldhead Edition” will be dropping in full on Tuesday, November 26! Congrats to Scott Rosenbluth on winning the ball marker giveaway! We will have more coming soon so stay tuned!
