Weekenders Weekly 012
Tourney time, custom kicks, and a new PGA Tour season underway!
Welcome back, Weekend Warriors!
This week, we have the start of the new 2025 PGA Tour season, some amazing events in Miami, and one of the absolute funniest things I’ve seen happen on a golf course. This season promises to be interesting, it’s the last one before a whole new batch of changes are introduced to the Tour. And, we have a really cool collaboration on the way this week from Malbon.
I hope you enjoy!
Battle for the Crest Cup
Last week, we announced the Weekenders Weekly Battle for the Crest Cup! Taking place at Palmetto Golf Course on December 21st, this 2-man scramble event will be a great showcase of local talent and style, with people all coming together to enjoy and support a hometown municipal golf course. With beloved Sports Grille wings, great prizes, giveaways and an after party, this is one local event you do not want to miss! Registration details will be going out in the next few days, and the price will include tee time and cart fee at Palmetto, Sports Grille food, drinks, prizes, and an after party! We hope to see you there!
Malbon x UNDFTD
Malbon has once again partnered with beloved L.A. streetwear brand UNDFTD for a collection that blends the two brands together to create a seamless collection of pieces where you don’t know where UNDFTD ends and Malbon begins. The two companies both approach their aesthetic and their product in similar ways, being influenced by their surroundings, focusing on small accessories as much as large ones, and keeping a tone that is true to their mission through marketing and branding. The two companies seem like a natural fit, both occupying similar spaces in their respective mediums. The collection is getting an early release event tonight at the Malbon store in Miami, from 6-9. Pull up!
We The Best Classic
This Thursday, December 5, marks the 2nd iteration of the We The Best Classic, DJ Khaled’s annual golf tournament at Miami Beach Golf Club. Like the name suggests, it is for his We The Best charity and invites golfers, rappers, actors, and more from all over the world to come play and celebrate at the course. It is a phenomenal event that helps to solidify golf as a huge part of modern pop culture and that the sport truly is changing to become seen as younger and cooler. There are great sponsors as well as great clientele, and the course is an immaculate and fun test of golf. Not to mention it is all for a good cause. Stay tuned to your socials on Thursday to see some of the action, and for the Weekenders Weekly article coming soon!
Hero World Challenge
The PGA Tour has its unofficial start to the 2025 season with the Hero World Challenge this week. A quaint tournament in that it is hosted by Tiger Woods (he is not playing in it this year), held in the Bahamas, and features a field of only 20 players with no cut, even though it has a respectable $5 million purse, with $1 million going to the winner. But, these 20 players are some of the best in the world, with the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Keegan Bradley, Tom Kim, Robert Macintyre, and Nick Dunlap, to name a few. Tony Finau was recently replaced in the tournament amid rumors of a move to LIV Golf, so we will have to see how that pans out in the next few weeks. While this tournament may not have the OWGR and FedEx points of the regular season swing, this is a great tournament to watch some of the best in the world tee it up on a beautiful course. Tune in starting this Thursday.
Golf Kicks of the Week
Introducing a new weekly series! TeeupkickswithChris is a golf influencer whose main focus is on golf shoes, particularly the recent influx of countless Nike and Jordan sneaker models being turned into golf shoes. His page is a place for golf sneakerheads to stay up to date on releases, learn about new ones, and find out some of the cool details and processes that go into our favorite kicks. Well, he has taken a large step with the noon release of his first ever custom golf sneaker, and it’s really something special. Taking the upper of a Sacai Waffle and merging it with a NEXT% bottom. It gives the performance and comfort of one of Nike’s best golf shoes with one the upper of one of the coolest Nike collars in the past few years. It is a two shoes in one concept, with overlaid swooshes, two tongues, and four laces. These are sure to sell out, but you can buy them here.
Weekly Advisors
We’re getting technical with this one. For better or for worse, my swing has been real iffy these past few weeks, leading me to search for ways to reel it in and gain control. In my quest, I have tried a few different things to help get myself swinging through the ball and getting my hands closed in time; two things a lot of us amateurs do to cause a slice. Well, I have found a quick fix that worked for myself, and may work for you as well. And, I do not consider this a “band-aid "fix”. These are overcorrection changes that in the long run, will develop bad habits the other way. For me, to help fix my oversewing and my club face control, all I did was take the fingers on my trail hand (right hand for righties) and moved my fingers closer together. My pointer finger kept inching further out away from the rest of my fingers. This quick fix really has helped me get my swing back in an effortless way.
Course of the Week
The Albany Golf Course is a beautiful resort course, pleasantly green Bermuda grass is dotted with bunkers which are all surrounded by the brilliant blue hue of the Caribbean. It is not the diciest course in golf, the wide fairways will allow hitters to go for it, and while there are lots of fairway bunkers, most will allow for a solid second shot. Some holes, like the long par 3 eighth, are surrounded by long grassy rough that is sure to make golf balls disappear as fast as it can inflate scores. Water only comes into play on a few holes, but when it does, it is unmissable to the eye; hopefully, a bit more missable to a golf ball. The last few holes have more water than grass, so tee shots and approach shots down the stretch have to be precise. While the course is more of a place for players to showcase their skills rather than test them, it is still more than fitting of a place for some of the best golfers in the entire world to come and play.
Stories from the Sticks
I want to include a simple quote that I feel like exemplifies the game of golf as much as anything else in life. It is taken from an old Japanese proverb.
Fall down seven times, stand up eight.
Stupid Golf Story
This is a good one. Yesterday, I played at the newly redone 18 holes at Crandon Golf Course in Key Biscayne, a city in Miami. A bit backed up, we had a single behind my twosome join up with us on the 6th tee box. Immediately, we all got along, making the same kinds of jokes and playing the same mediocre level of golf. The two guys in front of us were moving slow, and at one point they were in the fairway yelling something to my playing partner instead of hitting their shot. Our guy rolled up and said something along the lines of “Yeah those guys were trying to yell something to me about a bunker, I couldn’t hear what they were saying so I just told them to go fuck themselves.” We all started dying laughing, and after we hit our tee shots down the fairway, we found ourselves laughing even harder. Right smack in the bunker on our fairway was a large alligator enjoying the cool weather. We were in shambles about the group in front’s failed attempt at warning us about a life threatening situation, only to be told to go F off. Hilarity.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of Weekenders Weekly! We will have a new giveaway announcement on Instagram this week, so stay tuned for that, as well as the details for the Battle for the Crest Cup! In the meantime, I hope to see everyone who can make it at the Malbon store tonight for what will be an awesome event. I’m finally recording some great long form videos for YouTube as well. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, and go play some golf!
