TGL Week 4
It happened; TGL finally brought us a banger. A tight, up and down match from both sides that had its fair share of great shots and not so great ones as well. Jupiter Links came out swinging, with Tom Kim doing a lot of the heavy lifting around the greens. But, it was Boston Common that opened the scoring on the third hole, although Jupiter fired back shortly after. Tiger seems like the player who had the hardest time adjusting to TGL, with another duffed bunker shot and the first shot clock violation in history, while young gun Tom kept the team fired up throughout. Adam Scott’s consistent play from screen to green(zone) helped Boston fire back every time Jupiter won another point. With the match all square on 18, Tom Kim needed to get up and down for birdie to win. In an out of character mistake, he duffed his bunker shot, only to almost can it for bird on the next shot. Safely in for par, Adam Scott had a long birdie shot to win which just slipped by the hole. In the first ever TGL overtime, no one else but Tom Kim hit his pitch shot to about 5 feet, closest out of everyone there, giving Jupiter Links their first ever TGL win in a nail biter of a match that lived up to all expectations.
Stay Tranquilo
The hometown heroes at Stay Tranquilo fuse their innate Miami style into everything they touch, whether it’s a podcast at Domino Park or a player interview at Pebble Beach. Microphones in their hand and Cafecito in their corazon, these guys have been trailblazing what it means to be a modern sport media company, blending their stories and journeys across multiple mediums, from various locations, yet still maintaining their beautiful editing style and 305 roots. As they continue to grow, they somehow made the time to get your boy on the Stay Tranquilo podcast in what is one of the greatest accomplishments of my short professional career. We tried to find the heart of Weekenders Weekly while also finding out what the best courses in Miami are. Spoiler alert: vibes were the deciding factor on a lot of these. Keep an eye out for the Tranquilo Guys talking to your favorite golfers on the PGA Tour this season, and take a listen to our conversation here.
Maurice Allen tees it up
Maurice Allen is one of the rare examples of a true stand up guy, someone that shows how hard work can do more than just beat talent, but can create aptitude in many mediums, as well as creating opportunities for yourself and others that would otherwise never exist. Entering and then rising to the top of World Long Drive, he’s won tournaments and championships, driven a ball over Niagara Falls (ridiculous), and has done countless under the radar acts for young golfers and his community. This weekend, Allen will be teeing it up alongside the LPGA’s best at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. Think of The Sentry meets the AT&T Pebble Beach. Other than him automatically outdriving everyone, look out for Allen to rock some of the nicest custom Adidas kicks you’ve never seen. It’s also the world reveal of a completely bespoke bag that is so intricate and almost as beautiful as the tribute it stands for. Allen will be teeing off this Saturday.
Stupid Golf Story
As I return to TGL more and more, I keep trying to explore the area and find gems across West Palm and the surrounding areas. I kept hearing about Osprey Point, so I was ecstatic when I sniped a 2:30 tee time on a sold out Tuesday, the only problem being that we had 45 minutes to make a 50 minute drive from West Palm to Boca. Somehow making it with 3 minutes to spare, my buddy and I planned that I would drop him off to pay and get the cart, and I would walk the bags on my shoulders. The plan was working to perfection, and all was done in the car as I went to grab my friend’s bag. Imagine my shock when I realized that his straps, which are removable for some odd reason, were not there. I had to sprint across the lot, my bag on my back, holding my buddy’s in my arms like a baby. I was more than happy to sit out the first tee shot and let my arms calm down. I still ended up slicing it from the fairway.
I hope you enjoyed hearing about a lot of the new developments happening across golf, especially as the PGA Tour season starts to come into swing. Brands are starting to pepper the airwaves with teases of their spring drops, make sure to stay locked in here for detailed looks at all the new releases! In the next few days, I’ll have extensive looks at the upcoming Malbon and Eastside drops happening throughout 2025. Not to mention all the upcoming TGL content in store! It’s looking to be a busy bit of time so strap in, stay tapped in, and go play some golf!
