Malbon Golf x FUTURA LABS
Malbon Golf’s collaboration with FUTURA2000, the legendary graffiti artist, blends art and fashion into the sport like very few other collabs have done, on the biggest stage in golf no less. The print itself is one of my favorites, although polarizing, and what it represents is even cooler. Get acquainted below.
Oakley Observations
The Oakley Eyeshade made history in 1984 not just for its striking design and mix of futuristic materials, but as the first sunglasses made specifically for athletes; cyclists, to be exact, cementing it’s place in history while worn on the head of the 1986 Tour de France winner. Don’t call it a comeback, but these sexy shades have made their way to consumers once again, and they look better than ever. I have never been on for big lenses, but the shape of these combined with the thin stems is so cool. I can only imagine they feel as light as they look, the thinness even more profound in the sleek grey and pinkish-purple lens. While these had their birth in biking, I bet you they could find a new life in golf, and the day I get my hands on them, you guys will be the first to know.
Find both colors of the MUZM Eyeshade here.

Next Round
Rory famously Ubered his Taylormade Qi10 driver over 100 miles to replace his Qi35 on his way to winning The Players Championship. Well, no Uber this time, but he did still have his Qi10 in the bag for his Masters win on Sunday. If you want a part of the action for the best price, Next Round has got you with options ranging from brand new to fairly used depending on how nice you want your driver before you end up inevitably topping it a few times. And, Weekenders Weekly has got you with 10% off this club or any other with the code WW10! Check out the Qi10 and many other clubs right here.

One of the most important things to have in a swing is good tempo, whether your driver or your putter. While there are many ways to ingrain this into your body, one of the coolest ways I’ve seen is from the Instagram account Tour Tempo. Instead of tempo just being another way to say a smooth swing, they apply information from music theory into the golf swing, matching up different golfers swings to tones at different BPMs (beats per minute). They give swing tempo a whole new meaning, and although they sell courses through their account you can check out, you can apply this way of thinking for free just by recording yourself and playing a metronome through a website. Or, find the BPM of your favorite player and set up a metronome at the range. If all the bag boys start calling you The Conductor, make your swing as beautiful as an orchestra.
Course of the Week
Following up the Masters is no easy feat, but there’s a reason that Harbour Town Golf Links has been doing so for the last 56 years. The home of the RBC Heritage Classic, it is a Pete Dye southern classic, with water all over, undulating greens that seem to dip right into it, and bunkers spawning throughout the marshy ground. It’s tight fairways and even tighter corners don’t just fight distance, but make it an unpredictable factor, adding to the course’s strategy. With views of the famed lighthouse up 18, tight par 3’s, and an air of reverence even after the most revered tournament in history, Harbour Town and the RBC Heritage are a classic PGA Tour event that always brings golfers and fans alike. Bring on the red jacket!
Brand of the Week
I want to use this space to give a shout out to one of the fastest growing, beautifully branded, and downright tastiest companies in golf; Gleezy. Hot dogs have long been a staple of golf halfway houses, but as golf is changing and evolving year after year, these institutions of the game have remained quite the same. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right? Wrong, Gleezy said, and then proceeded to redefine what a golf course hot dog can be.
We can’t talk about anything else before talking about the taste, and they taste damn good. Double smoked beef brisket gives it a deeper, richer flavor than most other hot dogs I’ve had, not to mention they have the proprietary, chef crafted Gleezy Carolina Dog Sauce. Sheesh. And their branding, from their colors, to their logos, to their fonts, is supreme, and gives Gleezy that laidback yet sure of themselves air. Their social media is a mix of memes, commentary, and high-grade commercial style shots, blending creativity with taste both artistically and hotdog-fully. I really hope to be able to see them at one of my home courses soon, because they’re everywhere, from Malbon events to the PGA Show to hockey games to clubs around the country. If you’re lucky, then soon, it’ll be close to you.
Sneak of the Week
The Jordan Rev is a large step away from Jordan Brand’s normal M.O. of retro basketball shoes and the classic-styled ADG into a more futuristic arena. Joining umbrella brand Nike in a refinement of their golfing division, they recently held a press event showing off new clothes, new messaging, and yes, new shoes. The Jordan Rev golf shoes are very TRON-esque, seen so far in an all white model with a blue strap diagonally across. Reminiscent of the Air Jordan 33, and the even more recent Nike Victory Tour 4, it uses a dial lacing system, although not a BOA system but something proprietary. No word yet on if this is standard or just an option, but it seems to be that this will be the lacing model on every shoe. Along with the strap across, it also comes with more tech like a movable AIR unit, essentially a tiny little cushion, that you can move from shoe to shoe. It sits on the outside, a first for Nike and Jordan, giving extra cushion into your swing.
I like the way these shoes look and I like the technology behind them, and although we don’t know to actually what degree he had input, these shoes are allegedly the product of copious work done with MJ himself to figure out what his ideal golf shoe could be. But, for these shoes to perform well in the market, especially at their price point of $250, they are going to have to feel a lot comfier and lock the feet down a lot more than many other shoes, and actually utilize the technology in a beneficial way to be a big success. Jordan’s many retro sneakers, updated internally to be golfable, are still big hits, although some models perform better than others, while the ADG is a cool mix of Jordan tech in a classic silhouette at a great price. These shoes bring the Jumpan to an entirely different place of the market, one that we have seen come with mixed results through the Jordan basketball line as of late. I’m curious to see if Jordan Golf ends up taking that route and focuses more on signing golfers and giving them shoes rather than trying to reimagine the Jordan brand. But, it is important for them to have a nice and new signature shoe.

Stories from the Sticks
‘The first time I played The Masters, I was so nervous I drank a bottle of rum before I teed off. I shot the happiest 83 of my life.’
