Weekenders Weekly 034

US Opens, Italian Bikes, and one pretty putter!

Welcome back, Weekend Warriors!

This week, the US Open is here, and with it comes the carnage and calamity that happens when you let a golf course reach its most brutal state. I can’t wait to watch. Oakley keeps the hits coming with a new version of the Eye Jacket, while Manors brings the gap between street and golf wear ever closer.

I hope you enjoy!

The Tour Stop

It’s US Open Week, and that means it’s time to watch all our favorite Tour (and LIV) pros not tear it up, but get torn up. The tournament notorious for its difficultly returns to a course that is infamous for almost being boycotted over its level of play in the tourney’s earlier years, Oakmont CC. Don’t let that cute squirrel logo fool you; this course plays pretty demonic with false fronts and glassy greens, not to mention the 5 inch rough. Also, keep a keen eye on the parings for the initial rounds. The USGA likes to have fun with their groupings, sometimes to the chagrin of some of the players.

As with any major, let’s go Viktor Hovland!

Toulon Johnny Miller

The Toulon Small Batch for the upcoming US Open, celebrating a final round 63 by Johnny Miller to win in 1973, is maybe one of the most beautiful putters I have seen in a while. From the coloring, to the bronze weight across the bottom to the start yellow fills of paint, to that iconic old fashion design done in a modern style, it’s really just eye candy. And I bet it rolls so pure. Unfortunately, the already small percent change I had of obtaining this very limited edition putter drops to almost zero as I can almost guarantee there will be no lefty versions made. If anyone would be able to somehow swap it aftermarket, hit me up. We have business to discuss.

The putter drops Thursday at Noon est.

Oakley Observations

Here we have the iconic Eye Jacket model in a special edition makeup, courtesy of a collaboration with the Cinelli bicycle company. The weathered, detailed look (one can assume) is meant to represent the grit and grind of not just the biker after many hours and miles, but the bike itself. The distressed colorway helps the wearer maintain the Oakley performance while also fitting into a more grungy atheistic, a bit removed from the normally sleek and sometimes futuristic motif that Oakley usually adheres to.

These bad boys are available for purchase right now.

Brand of the Week

FLGOLF is a brand new golf brand dedicated to one thing, and in doing so, does that insanely well, in fact better than most anyone else; golf socks. While I’ve experimented with different golf socks before, most are either too hot, or too long, or too itchy, leaving me to use my Nike Crews. These are great, if not a bit thin and scratchy, which I suspected but never confirmed until I put on a pair from FLGOLF. With a detailed breakdown of the 6 (!) different materials used, as well as a makeup that allows each part of the sock to be as cushiony and breathable as the next, they are not playing around one bit. From the packaging to the logo, to the sock itself of course, I was honestly really impressed with what I saw and felt. The ankle was cut a bit high, perfect for golf, as well as being snugly fit, but not too tight. The toe has a cool curved shape that allows for more cushion underneath while ensuring the midsole isn’t stretching from the heel. I am excited to stress test these this weekend, but my first impression on foot was quite the feeling.

Stay tuned to socials for the review dropping tomorrow!

Sneak of the Week

The Reebok Club C that dropped today from the Manors Golf collaboration with Reebok is a perfect embodiment of the fusion of new and old streetwear culture through a lens of golf. The little accents and pieces of detail that help separate this shoe from its non-golf counterpart, and non-Manors counterpart as well. In a cool move, they did not spike the bottoms of this shoe, leaving it ready to be worn on the street as much as on the course, with a little less traction than some golfers would like. But, this just shows that the lines between golfwear and streetwear are only blurring more and more.
