Long Form

This past weekend, I played Turnberry Isle C.C in Aventura, the Soffer Course, a challenging and beautiful 7,000 yard trek through palms, waterfalls, and lots of hazards. Our tee time, as it turned out, was on the same day as the passing of Don Soffer, namesake of the course and creator of the entirety of Aventura. It was a unique experience you can read about below.

Happy Gilmore 2

The classic movie’s long awaited sequel is finally (almost) here, with a release this Friday, July 25. With not just a return from Sandler, Julie Bowen, and Christopher McDonald, there are celebrity cameos galore, as well as numerous PGA Tour (and LIV) players making appearances. With a returning blend of humor and heart, this sequel looks primed to be as enjoyable and memorable as the first.

That being said, Happy and his iconic swing aren’t returning without a few notable challenges. The worst and most debilitating is the death of Carl Weathers as the iconic Chubbs. Sandler has confirmed that Weather’s death sparked massive script changes. While Netflix can be commended for helping fund the movie and see its widespread release, there is something to say about the movie not seeing a widespread release in theaters, on a wider scale than this movie alone. But, the theatergoing experience is especially fun for movies that hit a niche, and this one would be no different. Either way I am extremely excited for this movie’s release, and will get a review posted after.

Oakley Observations

While not new frames, this week we are focusing on the Sutro Lite S, a smaller, slimmer take on the Sutro Lite cycling frames. While those are optimized for hours of constant use in the elements with rugged materials and large lenses for wind protection, the “S” version brings it down a notch for a sleeker form and smaller overall footprint (faceprint?). With a lot of colors available, this is one style I believe may start to be associated with golf as much as cycling.
