I hope you enjoy!

TGL IS BACK!!!

At. Long. Last. Pro golf’s favorite blue chip product is returning with a bang. The bang of a ball smashing into a 60 foot tall screen at 190 miles an hour, that is. TGL started out with exciting intrigue before taking the sports world by storm, with its impressive bravery in experimentation and intricate team of marketers and executives making bold and confident decisions on the fly. It is very phenomenal to watch business wise, but enough about that. Onto the golf.

That way that TGL can switch things up on the fly, it’s fearlessness to try new things, helps set the stage for a strong start to another spectacular season. From day one, TGL is looking to get the emotions going as New York Golf Club looks to get their get back against the reigning champs, Atlanta Drive. That’s right, a rematch of last season’s finals matchup will set the bar high as the first match of the season. This match will be especially broadcast by ABC in Sunday afternoon prime time, 3 P.M. Est. What a way to get things going, especially with the energy seeping into the match from the pregame banner hanging ceremony for ATL, and the December 28th start allows for more TGL to be played than last year as well. Before a full schedule release this fall, the excitement is building towards this kickoff event, especially once the Ryder Cup wraps up and the Tour comes back as well. TGL is such a unique experience in golf, one with so many unbelievable avenues of technological growth and on-field opportunity, yet still had a completely successful, full fledged inaugural season. Even with a bar held so high, they routinely meet it, and raise it again, and I am unbelievably ecstatic and grateful to work with TGL and TMMRW again this season.

Hypegolf Clubhouse Return

Three years ago, when I first started to enter the golf world and the professional world as an intern at Golf Digest, it happened to coincide with both the announcement of Malbon SOHO, and the Hypegolf Clubhouse popup. Inspired, I wrote an article about the new wave of golf pro shops and stores, and how they were evolving. Going to the Hypegolf Clubhouse introduced me to some amazing brands like Puttwell, which remains a favorite to this day. It also was my first time meeting other people like me who loved golf with all their heart but saw parts of it in a different way than it had been seen for years. It took GD a few more years to catch up to that.

Triumphantly, to celebrate 5 years of existence, Hypegolf is relaunching a Clubhouse popup back in the streets of SOHO where they once stood. A monthlong event coinciding with the Ryder Cup, it is sure to be a hub of golfing influence and creation. Who knows who will walk in, and what fantastic, game changing ideas will emerge out.

This year, the store is elevating its curations to fit a more refined streetwear lens, inviting brands that work with sleek silhouettes that combine the sportiness of current golfwear with the adaptability of modern streetwear. There is also going to be the reveal of a first ever collaboration between Oakley and Hypegolf, although no more word has been said except it will have both clothes and glasses. With outings and events in and out of the store, and even more exclusive products coming in like the P.A.F collaboration, it’s sure to be one of the most exciting times in recent golf memory. A supercharge of energy and ideas into golf culture from the most charged city on Earth. From August 29 - September 28, pop over to Grand St and see how one of the backbones of modern golf continues to support and reinvent the game.

Entrance of the first Clubhouse

Golf Flea

This Sunday, August 24th, the first ever Golf Flea takes place at Meadowlark Golf Club, all the way out in Huntington Beach CA. My friends at GwopMeet have been at this for years, with their aforementioned golf swap meets, their GOLF STORE pop up shop, and now in conjunction with Sandy Par, are launching a quarterly flea market to merge classic flea market shopping with the vibrant products and flush community aspect of modern golf. Sounds like a vibe, and a recipe for success not just in moving product, but in expanding the game’s niches in a cool physical setting with likeminded people. I wish them a lot of success and wish I could go! For anyone in the Huntington Beach area, make sure to stop by, these guys time and time again have shown commitment to making real world change in the golf space, and it is very cool to see.

Tour Credentials

What: TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP

Where: East Lake, Obviously

When: Aug 21-24

The finale is upon us, as the Tour Championship takes center stage and the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup Points Rankings converge on the scary East Lake Golf Course. As I’ve mentioned in the past, this will be the first Tour Championship in this modern format without the use of starting strokes, where all 30 players will be starting at even par (as it should always have been, if you ask me.) While Scottie will still probably win, he has less chance this year than last, and with the terrors awaiting at East Lake (the course is unbelievably beautiful, just long and very challenging) it’s always a spicy event to watch. I’m looking forward to seeing how this format may catch on, until then, throw some picks my way!

Oakley Observations

Today was the release of the entire Oakly Meta HSTN Collection, the same frames but with five new colorways. There is a big mix here, from the Ray-Ban inspired black frames with clear lenses to my favorite, the mauve-ish with light blue lenses. While I’m not completely sold on the Meta craze just yet, I am very intrigued with how these feel on the face and deal with the elements. I hope they stress tested them for a Florida summer, because with the sun, sweat, and potential rain almost always involved, it can get dicey. If they need someone to give them a trial run, Oakley, look no further. For those in more mild climates, don’t hesitate to order the glasses right here.

Puttbuddies

One of PuttBuddies’ most classic designs is the Greenskeeper divot tool kit, inspired by the best golf movie of all time and arguably its best character. The art design is fantastic, with the playful stupidity of the character captured perfectly, as well as his arch-nemesis gopher. With the awesome design and quality, it’s hard to catch this piece in stock, so with it’s triumphant return to the PuttBuddies online shelves, make sure to snatch it up quick! And, after months of using my kits, I can really vouch for the quality, especially on the divot tools, which have almost no signs of damage or paint loss. And I hit greens.

VannyVee Sports

A congratulations to VannyVee Sports on hitting the physical market, as their Eagle and Tiger Caddies can now be found in-store and online at the PGA Tour Superstore! I loved their products from the moment I saw them, and it’s been awesome to watch them grow, especially with new designs on the way! You can shop the full collection as well as get 15% off with WW15 on their website right here!

Stories from the Sticks

“Patience is always a good thing. Especially in a career like this, you need to ride the ups and downs; take the rough with the smooth.”

— Scottie Scheffeler

Editors Note

While I agree with Scottie that golf is an especially patient game, this really is a life lesson, through and through.
