Letter to the Editor

A: Weekenders, do I get the Nike Victory Pro 4 or Victory Tour 4? I need a new pair of shoes and can’t choose between the two.

WW: It depends exactly what you need. The Victory Pro 4 is going to more similar to a running shoe, while the Victory Tour 4 is closer to a basketball shoe. The Pro 4 is made for a player like Scottie, with a lot of foot movement, space to be light on the feet, material that flexes. The Tour 4 is made for Rory, where shoving weight down in the ground is key, needing stability and stronger upper material to help create that power. In terms of looks, the Pro 4 is lower and features more midsole supports, while the Tour 4 is going to focus on locking the whole foot down from the top to the back by being a little taller and all encompassing. I personally prefer the Tour 4, but both shoes have seen much success this year. At the end of the day, it is preference in terms of looks and feel.

The Tips Thursday Special

The Tips, Miami’s premier golf simulator spot, expertly crafts an atmosphere that mixes serious golf with a serious hang. While most simulators cater to either competitive golfers who need practice or hackers who need a beer, The Tips worked hard and succeeded in finding a middle ground that caters to the Miami golfer in all of us. They have Trackman IO units, the best of the best, but also numerous TV’s, a mixologist led bar, and a full kitchen serving out dishes that blew me away.

This Thursday, for the first time, come enjoy the TNF special at The Tips! Three hours on the simulator, unlimited beer, cocktails, and food, and the game on every screen in the house! This great deal is $125 per person, a real steal no matter what sim spot you compare it to. I hope to see ya’ll there!

Especially after living in New York City, I have developed an interesting perspective on golf simulators; I really view them as purely places to practice. In NYC, when I needed to hit balls, it was my only option other than Chelsea Piers. In a place like Miami, it also takes the role of a third space, which is becoming harder and harder to find. The Tips finds that middle line between a competitive golf practice and a focus on amenities and atmosphere. I really was impressed when I went. There’s good people behind it, and what it gives to the Miami golf scene is something that really has been missing.

Oakley Observations

UNDFTD and Oakley have come out of nowhere to announce, with nothing more than a single photo, a collaboration on the beloved Plantaris frames. Nothing has been said about different lenses or styles, but the blue dipped in white colorway stands out from many of the other Plantaris releases. An ocean blue on the lenses makes this water-inspired colorway feel much closer to home than many of the otherworldly marketing done for the Plantaris, featuring them on distant worlds. With the removable black nose piece bringing attention to the forefront, this is one model that will help elevate the Plantaris from cool new model to a standout part of sunglasses and streetwear culture. They will be releasing on Thursday, October 16.

Weekly Roundup

Miura x Sentinel

Miura and Sentinel are both known for their ritualistic approach to detail and hand made products, so a collaboration between the two brands seems natural in perspective. In product, the two occupy very different parts of the golf world, so now that the two have finally joined up, the collection features products that are as unique as the team up itself. Duffle bags, socks, shoe bags, a ferrule set, a club blush, hooded vests. It is s a type of pointed eclecticity that I strive to accomplish. I adore the processes and design ethos of both brands, and I only hope this collaboration is the first of many.

Agronomy Workshop

At least 6 months ago, I stumbled on a tiny (for now) account called agronomy workshop, whose moodboards, design ideas, and overall perspective on the golf industry weren’t just really dope, but aligned with my ideas as well. After following along, trying to figure out what was coming, they have finally dropped their first apparel batch. Stripping away most of the industry standards in material and design, this collection stands out not just for how it is presented, but what it represents. Only the start for this burgeoning company, but I am very happy to finally see what they have been cooking up. Only more to come!

FL Golf

Unless I forget about laundry, these are the only socks I wear when I play golf. Thicker, comfier, drier, they are a clear step above my Nike daily wear. After months of waiting (im)patiently, the black FLGolf Socks are finally here! With the socks recently seen at the Grass League and on the feet of my GOAT D Wade, it is obvious I am not the only person smart enough to be blessing their feet with the best sock in golf. You should be doing it too.

Reigning Champ x Puma

Puma continues to absolutely kill it, stepping over Reebok, racing past Nike, and battling Adidas for best big box golfwear brand right now. They’ve added another stone to the collaboration gauntlet, continuing the soccer inspiration after their phenomenal collection with AC Milan, now bringing an apparel capsule in part with Reigning Champ. The soccer style badging and jersey inspired shirt is the clearest example of this cross sport collab, with the on-course pieces bridging the brands together through colors and logos. The baggy cut of Puma polos is evident here, I find them more breathable than most Nike and Adidas polos, and the hits of Reigning Champ influence across the pieces gives both brands space to breathe. Two companies to keep a close eye on.

WW Watch List

Upcoming drops, a new album on the horizon, a great sports pick that no one else knows about. Welcome to the Watch List.

Miami Lakes Golf Club

After a total redevelopment and overhaul of the course and facilities, Miami Lakes GC is gearing up to open November 1! Due to the generosity of some amazing people, I have been able not just to interview Danny, who is leading the club in this endeavor, but also play the course! Interviews and articles on Lakes will be dropping closer to opening day. Stay tuned!

NBA Basketball

One week! NBA basketball returns in a way we haven’t seen in decades. NBC will be the main broadcaster, bringing back John Tesh and his iconic Roundball Rock, as well as classic logos and graphics, and even Michael Jordan in the broadcast booth, here and there I’m sure. Not only that, but Inside the NBA will be returning, this time on ESPN! I have a feeling this will be the best NBA season in a few years. Go Heat!

Infinite Archives x Air Jordan 17

Only 2 days to go until these beauties release. I can’t wait to fight thousands of bots at 11:00 AM Est!

Stories from the Sticks
