Last Week at Weekenders Weekly
Pioneer Magnolia
Suddenly, but with much fanfare, Sun Day Red has surprise dropped their next line of shoes, bringing a touch of elegance into their footwear fold and causing me to rush this paragraph in, as these shoes have to be talked about. That retro-fusion motif is present but held off, with traditional stitching and detailing favored over the more modern, Air Jordan aesthetic of the Pioneer Cypress. Looking at the shoe from the back and the front, its surprisingly thin frame and shiny, ribbed bottom liner make it appear quite modern at first. The vertical “SUN DAY RED” lettering down the back is bold and clear, and draws your eyes to the many layers of stitching happening around and underneath. But, that sleek silhouette is overcome with the flowing poked leather pattern across the sides, which is met with the zig-zagged pattern around the laces, evoking the feeling of a classic kiltie. Sun Day Red walks a cool line of traditional golf styles and colors created through modern, high quality materials, and this shoe is the perfect representation of that. Whereas the Pioneer Cypress favored sleekness, turning the saddle idea into something lower and smoother, the Pioneer Magnolia favors the bold design, yet keeps everything polished with the muted tones of beige, brick, and grey. It is seemingly not as wide but does look higher than the Cypress, with the same bottom plate and spikes. While on the website, it shows the same pebbled insoles that came alongside the stock ones, it does not show if there are any extra laces or not, which was a very pleasant surprise with the Pioneer Cypress. Time will tell. In the meantime, you can go online and find out for yourself, as the shoe is out now and in three beautiful colorways. SDR continues to deliver. Find the shoes online here.

SSC x Golf+ VR
Sugarloaf Social Club is a small yet powerful golf-based creative agency and lifestyle brand which also happens to create very nice clothing and accessories. Seemingly primed for this new wave of golf culture, they have been able to work with some of the hottest brands, like Quiet Golf, and influencers, as they recently signed Zaire Odle, and even just released a clothing collaboration with The Players Championship alongside staples like Malbon and Eastside. But, one of their recent collaborations is something that I truly don’t think has been done before, and that is SSC’s collaboration with Golf+ VR. That’s right, not only can you use SSC clubs, balls, bags, and grips in real life, but also on the virtual links as well. I really love the designs that SSC puts out; making unique products like grips is pretty dope as well. But, going out of their way to put their pieces in VR is pretty next level. Golf+ VR is a great game, they did a phenomenal job mapping out the courses, implementing the physics, and the daily/weekly tournament aspect is amazing. You can tell there is a high level of love and care put into the game, and it is one of my favorite VR experiences of all time. This reflects how Sugarloaf approaches its products and branding, so the mix of these two has brought about a beautiful collaboration of technology, identity, and creativity.
Pump and Nano
No, this isn’t a type of get rich quick stock scheme, but actually the names of the two models releasing alongside the much talked about Reebok Question golf shoe. The Nano is Reebok’s very successful workout model, and it gets a very nice golf tune up with a more rugged upper and a grippy but spineless bottom. As a workout shoe originally, I’m sure stability and comfort will be the two main selling points with this model, and with a $130 price point it is very competitive for today’s shoe market. I’m excited to see how people react to these but I am scared that people who do not know that the shoe comes from a non-golf silhouette will be a bit more reserved when looking at shoe options. The other retro we are getting alongside the Question is the Pump, which is the only Reebok release that we have seen as a golf shoe in the past, with John Daly famously wearing Pump golf shoes for a time in his playing days. Returning in a classic golf saddle shoe style, its sleek yet versatile black and white leather upper is rooted in tradition while hiding modern technology underneath. Oh, and of course, the iconic pump button sticking out from the side, giving you the ability to add even more power to your swing. While the Question takes the cake for me, these two releases show Reebok’s commitment to creating really cool, nostalgic shoes for their return, and they are actually putting in the time and effort to effectively compete rather than making a cash grab in a high-demand market.
These shoes release here alongside the Reebok golf clothing collection on March 25.

Happy Gilmore 2
At long last, Happy is back, with classic characters like Shooter and Virginia returning alongside a whole slew of newcomers, who may be new to Happy Gilmore but are very familiar to us. A long list of PGA Tour players are present in the trailer, from John Daly to Scottie Scheffler to Bryson DeChambeau, and while their roles are not yet clear, they are seemingly going to be big parts of the story. That story is still quite under wraps, and the trailer does not do much to show it off, but it seems like a once retired Happy is going to have some trouble competing with these young guns. The trailer also does it’s job to tease an Adidas clothing collection, which I can tell you right now if done right, could go down in history as one of the best golf clothing releases of all time. We get a glimpse at some Adidas sweats that Happy is wearing, and they do not disappoint in terms of what a potential collaboration could look like. While we have no idea when the clothing will release, we do know that the movie will be coming out July 25. Netflix, please bring this to theaters. Please.
Side note: No matter what happens to LIV Golf, or however this professional golf dispute is remembered down the road, they got Bryson DeChambeau in his Crushers gear in Happy Gilmore 2.
Course of the Week
This week the PGA Tour heads to Tampa to duel with the snakes at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook. The Valspar Championship is another one of those laid back, Florida swing tournaments that just so happens to take place on one of the hardest courses they could find; the seventh hardest on the PGA Tour, to be exact. All of the already tough holes lead up to the final three, the Snake Pit, a true test through a winding, guarded par 4, a long, over 200-yard par 3 onto a small green, and an uphill, doglegging par 4 finish. Some of golf’s greatest have fallen to the fangs, much to the delight of the many spectators that line the tree-filled, surprisingly elevated fairways and rough. Like most other Florida courses it has Bermuda grass, but Bermuda in Tour conditions is a whole different monster. As a course that takes true skill to dismantle, this tournament will be the perfect follow-up to The Players, where golfers can still test themselves at a high level without getting brutalized. Play for the Valspar Championship starts this Thursday.
Sneak of the Week
The Air Max Plus G “The Players’ was the sleeper hit of last week, with it having the least media coverage out of any TPC product released. But, for what it lacked in noise, it makes up for in the undoubtedly beautiful design and material selection. The way the different shades of tan and brown bounce around and wrestle with each other is playful and elegant at the same time. And the material selection is stellar; from shiny faux leather to rubber tan toe boxes to the fur that coats the shoe throughout. It is definitely made to represent the heightened level of play and prowess associated with The Players Championship. Not to mention, the Air Max Plus, with its size, strong build, and timeless shape, is one of the best Nike shoes to be used for a golf conversion. It’s definitely a shoe that will go down as one of the most stylish and creative TPC shoes of the last few years, and I’m sad and sorry I wasn't able to get my hands on a pair in time.

Sigh.
